FE Loans
FE Loans are a new scheme which is being rolled out in the 2013/14 academic year for students aged over 24 years old, studying levels 3 or 4, advanced Apprenticeships or higher Apprenticeships.
Access to Learning Fund (ALF)
The ALF is available for higher education students on a low income who may need extra financial support for their course and to stay in higher education. This support comes in the form of a non-repayable grant - see the Access to Learning Fund pages (on the Directgov website) for more information.
Adult Learning Grant (ALG)
A weekly payment of up to £30, paid directly to eligible students aged 19 and over studying for their first full level 2 (equivalent to five GCSEs at grade C) or level 3 (equivalent to two/three A levels) qualification - see the Adult Learning Grant pages (on the Directgov website) for more information.
Care to Learn (C2L)
This scheme is to help with the childcare costs while you study if you are a young parent under the age of 20 at the start of your course - see the Care to Learn pages (on the Directgov website) for more information.
Professional and Career Development Loan
The Professional and Career Development Loan is a deferred interest repayment loan from a bank to support tuition and living costs while you study. Eligible students can borrow between £300 and £10,000 over two years - see the Professional and Career Development Loan pages (on the Directgov website) for more information.
Discretionary Learner Support (dLS)
We may be able to offer limited financial support to eligible students who would not be able to study for financial reasons. Grants are awarded to students for childcare, books and equipment, travel to college, material fee costs and emergency hardship.
Residential Support Scheme (RSS)
Available for eligible students to study a course that is not within a reasonable daily travelling distance from their home - see the Residential Support Scheme
