Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
Students and staff at City College Plymouth are celebrating today after the release of the City’s A level league tables. The tables showed that the College was ranked sixth out of the 22 schools in the local authority for its average point score per examination entry (excluding the selective schools). The tables also place the College fifth for the percentage of students achieving three or more A levels.
As the largest provider of A levels in Plymouth - and all under one roof - City College Plymouth’s A level students achieved a 97% pass rate last year. Impressively, the 2011 results showed a 13% increase in students achieving grades A-C in AS levels and over 80% of A level subjects achieving a 100% pass rate. In some of these, such as AS or A levels in English literature, physics, classical civilisation and environmental science, students’ results, based on their predicted GCSE achievements, were far better, placing the subjects in the top 10% of the UK.
College Principal, Phil Davies, said: “I was particularly pleased to see that data from this morning’s Guardian newspaper placed the College in the top quarter of all further education colleges in the country for the percentage of students achieving three or more A levels at grades A*-E. City College Plymouth really is the place to come for education and training that works!
“The A/AS Level Performance Tables, which are produced by the Department for Education, clearly show that City College Plymouth is not only Plymouth’s largest provider of A levels by far, but also one of the City’s best performing organisations for A level provision too.”
The College’s A level provision is expanding to include many more subjects which will cement its position as offering the widest choice of A level subjects in Plymouth. The new courses will include A levels in drama, dance, music, French, geography, English language and art.
The College is holding an A Level Open Evening on Thursday 29 March at its Goschen Centre in Keyham to launch the new subjects. For more information go to www.cityplym.ac.uk or call 01752 305300.
