Following announcements of new financial support for students for 2011/12, below are some details about the range of entitlements that City College Plymouth students may be eligible for.

Supporting Payments*

* Please note: government guidance to be finalised; benefits may be subject to eligibility criteria and conditions, means testing and/or linked to attendance.

Discretionary Fund*

  • Financial assistance for course related costs including books, equipment, trips and uniform
  • Financial assistance for College issued travel passes
  • Emergency meal vouchers and hardship payments
  • Support for 19+ students

Travel

* Eligibility criteria will apply.

Childcare*

  • Support for childcare and nursery costs whilst attending College

16-19 year old and 19+ students will be eligible for childcare payments to enable them to study at City College Plymouth. These are linked to attendance and can be used for the College’s own nurseries and local childcare providers.

  • FREE onsite social and sporting activities
  • Subsided membership of the College gym
  • Subsidised trips and external activities
  • Pure Hair and Day Spa

Bursary

£1,200 bursary paid in ten monthly instalments to 16-19 year olds in care, care leavers and those on income support. The £120 monthly payments will be linked to your attendance.

EMA Transitional Funds

  • For those who applied and received EMA in 2009/10 - you will continue with the same level of award until July 2012. Paid weekly and linked to your attendance.
  • For those who were awarded £30 per week from 2010/11 - you will receive £20 a week until July 2012, based on your attendance.

Continuation Bonus - City College Plymouth

As a SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE PAYMENT City College Plymouth will provide a £50 termly bonus to returning students on a mainstream course (ie A levels, BTECs, NVQs). This is for those affected by the loss of EMA and who are not eligible for the EMA transistional arrangements or for the bursary in 2011/12. 

To qualify you must:

  • be an existing student that receives either the £20 or £10 weekly EMA payment
  • complete your current year of study (2010/11)
  • complete an internal progression application by the deadline of 31 May 2011 for the next level of course or continue onto the 2nd year of your current course
  • enrol in September 2011
  • ensure you maintain a high level of attendance.

Free Bus Service

Students will benefit from the free bus service circulating the main College sites, city centre and train station. This is available to all enrolled students when a student ID card is shown.

Travel Assistance

Subsidised travel passes will be offered to full-time 16-18 year old students within the Plymouth city boundary, Devon and Cornwall, subject to home address and income. Travel subsidies will be available to 19+ students dependent on circumstance.

Criteria

Government guidance has yet to be published, however it is anticipated that:

  • Bursaries will be linked to eligibility criteria and attendance
  • EMA transistional funds will be dependant on previous entitlement and attendance
  • Continuation bonus will be related to criteria and attendance
  • Discretionary funds will be subject to guidance and dependant on eligibility criteria. A sliding scale of support will be available dependant on circumstances
  • Childcare payments will be based on eligibility criteria and attendance
